Change is inevitable. As the next two decades unfold, trillions in assets will transition across generations. With this shift comes a reimagining of wealth, family and legacy as we know it today.
New wealth holders bring fresh perspectives to the table, and today’s high-net-worth families reflect evolving dynamics: global in scope, digitally native, and shaped by diverse backgrounds. They transform from multigenerational legacies to non-traditional family structures. Concepts like “consumption”, “identity”, “work”, "privacy" or "ownership" have new meanings. For example, take Marlene Engelhorn, heir to the BASF fortune, who recently pledged to donate 90% of her wealth, challenging long-held notions of inheritance. On the investment side, research indicates that approximately 73% of millennials and Generation Z prioritize ESG factors over higher returns.
Our Geneva Wealth Lab embraces this transformative moment. Here, we’ll listen to the next generation of wealth-holders to understand their vision for the future and prepare ourselves to advise them effectively. Change also comes with the new generation of advisors. We invite young professionals to take a stand and describe how they see the future of their work.
Wealth transfer is not without its challenges. Discussions of inheritance can unearth deep-seated family issues, and for those passing on assets, it often triggers questions of personal re-definition and legacy. Advisors must learn how to skillfully navigate these waters, balancing complex legal, tax, and emotional landscapes.
We call our event the 'Lab' because we want to discuss all these issues in a very open and interactive format. During this event you will have a chance to exchange and expand on ideas with lawyers, wealth managers, bankers, academics, philanthropists, and the industry disruptors. Together we will explore how to best support young generation facing these complex questions.
Geneva, a global decision-making hub and the epicenter of wealth advisory, private banking, and philanthropy, is a perfect setting for our Wealth Lab. What a better place could there be for a disruptive lab in the wealth industry?
